Working Together Makes Change Possible
Accredited Registered MNCS
I am an experienced, professional and understanding counsellor practicing in the centre of Exeter.
I work with any adult aged 18 and over, having particular understanding and experience of working with Depression, Anxiety and Stress, low self esteem/confidence, relationship and workplace difficulties and issues from childhood.
I bring a depth and understanding from my own experiences, my counselling practice and previously having worked in the Police service for over 20 years. Working together with a Counsellor can help to overcome the difficulties you are experiencing and make profound changes to your life. I am here to help you work through the challenging and difficult experiences you are going through.
I am an Integrative Counsellor, meaning that I have studied and trained using a range of theories including Person Centred, Gestalt and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I also use Mindfulness, nature and Creative techniques to help you work through deeply hidden and often painful memories. Experiences or traumatic events past or present can build up over time, often from childhood, which may have been buried deeply within us and we have struggled on. This can result in a layering of more and more problems, leading to unhealthy life choices affecting all aspects of our lives.
There are many shared behaviours and symptoms, which affect us all, and it is helpful to acknowledge that we are not alone in our struggles, although it can often feel that way. In contrast to this, we are all unique individuals and our experiences in life, even if similar to others, will affect us all differently.
I work in a deeply compassionate way, drawing from a range of theories and techniques to suit your individuality and the experiences you have been through.
I provide an Experienced, Professional, Understanding and
Non judgemental relationship. I want you to feel safe and secure, to enable you to explore the difficulties you are struggling with.
We will work together to find appropriate solutions and coping strategies enabling you to lead a happier and more fulfilled life, where you can begin to value and believe in yourself and make better life choices.
I know from my own experiences and from that of my clients that this process is life changing.
Where I Practice
I practice on the second floor of 14 Castle Street, Exeter, just off the High Street. My practice room is a comfortable, safe and airy room in an old characteristic building in a historic area close to Rougemont and Northernhay Gardens .
I addition to my therapy room practice, I also offer walk and talk therapy in the countryside near Exeter. This can be beneficial to those who may feel more comfortable outside in nature, walking and talking and away from the confines of a therapy room. This can also help if you wish to gain more confidence in getting outside, which can lead to huge health benefits both mentally and physically. I incorporate the use of Nature and Mindfulness during these sessions. I suggest a few sessions with me initially in Castle Street to set up our therapeutic relationship and to ensure you feel comfortable about taking our sessions outdoors, if this option is for you.
We have experienced difficult and confusing times recently with the Corona Virus pandemic, I am now returning to face to face sessions and will also continue to offer phone call and video link appointments.
I offer a free initial 30 minute consultation, either in person, by phone or video link. This is for you to be able to meet me or talk with me, to discuss what you are hoping to gain from your sessions and to decide if I am the right therapist for you.
Thereafter all subsequent 60 minute appointments are £45.
I also offer a limited number of concessionary places, at a cost of £35 an hour for students and low incomes, please check with me to see if I am in a position to offer you this. If you are experiencing financial hardship due to the Corona Virus please speak to me so that we can talk about what you are able to afford.
I offer short or long term work dependant on what you need, I recommend weekly appointments, as from experience this works well, however I understand that this is not always possible, and we can make adjustments to suit you and your requirements.
I welcome telephone enquiries, emails or text messages, as I appreciate how difficult it can be to find a therapist that feels right for you and your needs. If I am unable to take your call, I will get back to you by your preferred means as soon as I am able to, usually the next day at the latest.
